Online LaTeX editor for writing papers and theses together, with journal templates, change tracking and reference imports.
Overleaf is an online LaTeX editor. You write LaTeX source in the browser and see the compiled PDF next to it, without installing a TeX distribution. Projects can be shared with co-authors who edit at the same time, and many journals and universities publish their templates on Overleaf.
It is common in mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering, and for theses that need precise formatting of equations, figures and references. Paid plans add features such as full change tracking, longer compile times and syncing references from tools like Zotero and Mendeley.
Overleaf has added AI writing assistance in some plans, and your institution may provide a premium license. Check whether your university or target journal allows AI help with language, and keep a local copy or Git sync of important projects so a deadline does not depend on one online service.
Not enough info yet on open source, works in Word or Google Docs, developer API, shows sources for its answers, mobile app. Check the tool's own site.
