About Mendeley

Elsevier's reference manager with a PDF reader, shared groups and the Mendeley Cite add-in for citing in Word.

Mendeley is a reference manager owned by Elsevier. Mendeley Reference Manager stores references and PDFs, lets you read and highlight papers, and syncs your library between devices. The Mendeley Cite add-in inserts citations and a bibliography into Microsoft Word in the style your journal asks for.

Students often meet it through their university, and private groups let a supervisor and students share a set of references. A web importer saves references from many publisher and database pages, and the library can be exported in common formats if you later move to another tool.

The current app replaced an older desktop version, so older tutorials may describe features that work differently now. Check the storage limit on the free plan, read Elsevier's data terms if your library holds confidential material, and confirm that citations in the final document match the style guide.
